Our route starts between Skala Marion and the mountain settlement “Maries”.

Once we have completed the bike fitting and the check of our equipment, we start with a short ascent of a few kilometers on the country road. Soon we cross the traditional settlement of Maries.

We leave the tarmac and enter the forest dirt road towards the artificial lake of the village where we make our first short break. We take a few minutes to see the small waterfall right next to the lake.

After taking our first photos, we continue our ascent from at the foot of Mount Ypsario’s west side.

The first demanding part of the climb with the e-bikes is completed at 10 km. There, we grasp the endless view of the mountains of Thasos that unfold in front of us.

The route continues with a joyful descent to the village of Kastro.

This village is considered to be the old village of Limenaria. There we make our scheduled pit stop, for coffee or beer, lasting 45 minutes. We join Kostas in his traditional tavern, whose hospitality rejuvenates the team, and his stories about the village and the wider area of the Island are most interesting.

After completing our break, we do a quick check of our equipment and make the necessary adjustments in our bicycles, so we can safely initiate our descent towards Limenaria.

As soon as we leave the village, the landscape changes quickly. We find ourselves crossing a forest, consisting of tall pine trees. The route continues and in a few minutes, we reach the Apostolos Waterfall, a nice spot for photos!

Our route continues downhill, still in the forest and we cycle along the riverside, having to cross the river 3-4 times.

After completing our forest descent, the scenery changes again as we approach Limenaria. The route flattens and is surrounded by olive trees.

We complete our route by riding along Limenaria’s port and soon, return to the starting point to complete our Kastro Tour.
